MAWA strives to preserve and positively impact the various watersheds in the Murrysville PA area. 

What is MAWA?

The Murrysville Area Watershed Association (MAWA) is a team of dedicated environmental and business professionals committed to creating a positive impact on our environment and community.

What WE DO?

Through continuous water quality monitoring, collaborative efforts with property owners, and strategic programs to establish riparian buffers, MAWA mitigates environmental impact and promotes informed community engagement.

Murrysville acid mine remediation

The Murrysville Area Watershed Association's acid mine remediation project aims to stop heavy metals from entering Turtle Creek. Supported by Export officials, it will use lime slurry treatment and feature recreational ponds.

The project seeks state and nonprofit funding and is expected to take

Rare Fisher Captured on Trail Camera

A trail camera in Murrysville, Pennsylvania, captured rare footage of a fisher, a weasel-like animal once extinct in the state. Fishers have been reintroduced since the 1990s, and their populations are now established in various regions. Establish a process to work with property owners to secure property access to further the goals of the organization to monitor and improve the quality of water in the targeted watersheds.

Develop assets to further the improvement of the quality of water in the Murrysville Area Watersheds by constructing active and passive acid mine remediation facilities to improve the water quality of streams.
