The Murrysville Area Watershed Association (MAWA) is a (non-profit)growing watershed restoration organization promoting the enhancement of environmental quality throughout the watersheds in the Murrysville and Export areas of Southwest PA. Our organization consists of a team of dedicated environmental and business professionals committed to creating a positive impact on our environment and community. Through continuous water quality monitoring, collaborative efforts with property owners, and strategic programs to establish riparian buffers, MAWA mitigates environmental impact and promotes informed community engagement. 

MAWA’s projects and programs seek to resolve the legacy of coal mining impacts and enhancing the general overall quality in the Turtle Creek Watershed. Utilizing on the ground project implementation and community engagement, we are enhancing the environmental quality of the Southwest region of Pennsylvania. 

Position:  Watershed Director of Operations – Program Manager

Projected Start Date: Anticipated- January 2025 

Location: On-site - Murrysville, PA

The Murrysville Area Watershed Association is currently seeking a full-time senior-level environmental professional for the position of “Director of Operations (DOP)”. 

The DOP is a member of the Leadership Team partnering with the President/Board of Directors, Executive Director, and the Property Manager, while playing an integral part of the organization in contributing to the Watershed’s restoration, the engagement of diverse communities, and partnering with other stakeholders to deliver on our mission- to protect and restore Murrysville’s watersheds.

The DOP will lead within the areas of implementation and maintenance of the current AMD remediation projects, while developing, implementing, and managing the watershed stewardship programming, including the organization’s financial resources, business operations, equipment, and or personnel. The DOP will create and successfully implement MAWA’s Strategic Plan- Including maintaining benchmark best practices, and efficient and streamlined guidelines for the growth of all operations.

Salary Range: $50,000.00 - $60,000.00 - Exempt + Benefits Package

Position Job Duties and Responsibilities: 

​

  • Effectively, efficiently, and sustainably managing and stewarding, the Director of Operations works cross-functionally comprising specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and time-based goals. 

  • Implements MAWA’s Strategic Plan under guidance of the executive director and board of directors. 

  • Manages and maintains current AMD watershed restoration projects (Lyon’s Run and White Valley.) 

  • Develops and coordinates MAWA’s Watershed Stewardship Program and volunteers. 

  • Works collaboratively with the board of directors and stakeholders to identify priority water quality improvement projects and lead project development/ implementation. 

  • Directs watershed project management including communication and relationship building with project partners and stakeholders, data analysis, budgeting, developing solutions to water quality/watershed related issues, goal setting, and tracking results. 

  • Works collaboratively with board and stakeholders in fund development including grant writing and reporting. 

  • Organizes and implements fundraising events. 

  • Manages water quality data collection including maintaining data and equipment, coordinating volunteers, and making recommendations based on data. 

  •  Manages online presence and social media platforms. 

  • Develops and implements MAWA’s watershed education and outreach programs. 

  • Maintains and organizes MAWA’s document library and historical 

  • All other duties as assigned by the MAWA Executive Director.

Position Qualifications: 

​

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental sciences or related field or equivalent experience, including 3-5 years of project management experience. 

  • A significant passion, background and interest in all aspects and efforts of local Watershed Restoration and it’s environment. 

  • Interpersonal relationship skills (i.e. communication, networking, collaboration, etc.) 

  • Ability to work independently: attention to detail, ability to establish and execute priorities, and manage time appropriately. 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. 

  • Demonstrated poise and diplomacy necessary to work interactively with agencies and stakeholders from different contexts and backgrounds. 

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Zoom, GIS, data analysis and management, websites, and social media. 

  • Experience delivering environmental education and outreach. 

  • Experience in fundraising, grant writing, and event planning. 

  • Valid driver’s license 

  • Fluent in the English language. 

  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.

Physical Requirements:

​

Ability to lift 25 lbs. Ability and willingness to work outdoors in a variety of terrain and conditions. Potential of extended periods in cold and wet weather, hiking through areas along streams and wetlands.
